Kelly Anne Mudd is an educational leader with nearly two decades of experience across eastern North Carolina. She currently serves as Director of Grants and Special Programs for Wilson County Schools, where she provides strategic leadership in expanding funding opportunities, including authoring and leading a successful $42 million grant proposal to fund the consolidation and construction of a new elementary school. She also oversees key programs, including the arts, Advanced Teaching Roles, and Spanish Immersion.

 

Dr. Mudd began her career as an Exceptional Children teacher in Vance County through Teach For America, working with students with mild to moderate disabilities. She served as a public school principal for a decade, including 7 years leading a Kindergarten–8th-grade school in Tarboro. In 2024, she was named Wells Fargo District Principal of the Year for Edgecombe County Public Schools.

 

She also serves on the North Carolina Council for Educational Services for Exceptional Children, advising the State Board of Education on unmet needs of students with disabilities, policy development, and service coordination. Dr. Mudd holds a Doctorate in Education from East Carolina University. She and her husband live in Rocky Mount, where she enjoys running, reading, and spending time with friends.
